Tax Equalization
Responsibilities:
North Dakota law requires that the McHenry County Tax Directors office ensure that all parcels of land and buildings in the County are uniformly and fairly valued for assessment purposes.
This is an ongoing process that consists of gathering and reviewing information on properties through field inspections, measuring and listing new construction and analyzing market sales to determine fair values for existing and new construction properties. These values are used by the County Auditor to calculate property taxes for the county, cities, schools and parks.
In addition to assessments, the County Tax Director is also responsible for administering property tax exemptions, homestead tax credit for senior citizens and disabled persons, disabled and paraplegic veteran exemptions, disabled exemptions, wheelchair exemptions and blind exemptions.
We welcome a call before stopping by to ensure we are available and able to serve your needs in a timely manner.
